Having the Right Mindset

This isn’t our normal property blog but there is an important and tangible message to this and relevance to us all in our lives and property businesses and an insight to our Mindset.

Our last blog a few days ago, CLICK HERE, mentioned how with our experience and ‘Can Do’ attitude we are overcoming the current restrictions with Covid-19 and how we are continuing to sell, refurbish and rent property.

Having being investors for a combined 35 years, building large, successful and robust business and  property portfolios, seeing through 3 recessions, various ups and downs in the market, we thought we had seen it all.

Wrong.

Have never seen anything like the situation we find ourselves in today!

So, it must be looked at like any other challenge we must overcome.

We learn what the options are, we adapt what we do, we monitor the results, we make improvements on the feedback.

As always we, Plan, Do, Review and Improve

Some of this current situation with the virus will be short term, but some of the new ways will be with us for some time.

Society will change the way we live will change and so is the way we will have to adapt to the new world.

It will create more opportunities for us for the right type of property, at the right price in the right location.

We believe that it will be mainly through BTL property, it will be even more in demand and in the next blog next week we will share more insights into that and why.

From experience the main obstacle we have seen in people succeeding is their approach to adapt, listening, taking action, attitude and confidence in going outside their comfort zone, or their Mindset.

Here is a situation that prompted this blog.

Close to where Gordon lives there are two garden centres and he has been a customer of both of them for many years .

The owner of one of them has responded to the coronavirus crisis by shutting down his business and sinking into a black pit of despair.

They didn’t consult anyone, look for solutions or think or want to move out of their comfort zone.

The owner of the other one has adopted a very different approach.

A few weeks ago he saw what was happening in Italy and concluded that a lockdown would soon be imposed in the UK. He asked Gordon what he thought and suggested.

Over the next 2 weeks he paid a local IT company I recommended to him to design and build him a new e-commerce website so that he had the ability to sell his plants on line, and paid for thousands of leaflets to be delivered to every house in the area.

Almost overnight he has built a thriving e commerce business with a highly efficient same day delivery service staffed by people he would otherwise have had to make redundant.

As a consequence he has sold most of his perishable stock of spring plants to people who have nothing to do during the lock down apart from spending time in their gardens.

2020 will probably not be the best year he has ever had but at least he is sure that he is going to survive it and his new e commerce business will continue long after the virus has been beaten.

In the meanwhile his competitor just watches the television news all day and waits for the bailiffs to arrive to take away his business his home and everything he has ever worked for.

You cannot control what happens with the coronavirus but what you can control is how you respond to it .

That is why it is so important to spend time thinking about how your property business can continue to improve, think differently, and thrive.

Remember,

When you and your business team is strong on the inside, they can weather any storm from the outside.
